Why satin, and why big

Two things make a hair tie kind or cruel. The first is width: a wide band spreads the tension across your hair instead of biting into one narrow line, which is where creases and breakage come from. The second is the fabric. Satin lets hair slide as you tighten and release; cotton and towelling grab it.

These are both — wide and satin. It's the same reasoning behind the satin sleeping cap in our curling set: the less friction against your hair, the less of it you leave behind.
